Open Letter

The walls of Intramuros

Intramuros is a walled city within Metropolitan Manila, Philippines. The name comes from the Spanish word “within walls". It was built to protect the city form invasions since it was the Spaniard's political and military base in the Philippines. Intramuros became the capital of the New Spanish island dominion and flourished during the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1944 U.S. bombing reduced the city to nothing but rubble. The site was cleared after World War II and reconstruction proceeded slowly. The pentagonal walls, seven gates, and small plazas have been repaired.

Intramuros

The walls of Intramuros was meant to keep the spanish safe from invaders. If the walls was meant to keep some people out their relationship was already very bad so building a wall just made that relationship slightly worse. If the wall was destroyed I would mend it instead of building bridges since it is better for security and privacy and my wall has a gate if I ever wanted to communicate with other people.
